Cap Screw
Cap screws and bolt and nut products are available from Engineering Services' extensive fastener range. When experts discuss the quality of a cap screw, a bolt or a nut, Engineering Services is a name that will inevitably come up every time. Engineering Services are the name to come to for a variety of types of screws for even those tightest of spots. Amongst the extensive range we offer, we can provide you with any type of screw from a cap screw, a stainless steel screw, a brass screw, a security screw or a socket screw.
Bolted joints are one of the most commonly used elements in the construction industry. Bolted joints may consist of cap screws that capture and join other parts and are secured by the screw threads. There are two main types of bolted joint designs. In one method, the bolt is tightened to a calculated torque in order to produce a clamp load. The joint will be designed so that the clamp load is never overcome by the forces acting upon the joint. The other type of bolted joint does not have a designated clamp load but relies upon the sheer strength of the bolt shaft. This may include bolts that can move, known as clevis linkages and joints that rely upon locking mechanisms such as lock washers and thread adhesives.
The clamp load of a cap screw is created when torque is applied and is generally a percentage of the cap screw's proof strength. Holo-krome cap screws are manufactured to rigorous standards ensuring their quality in important areas such as strength and clamp load.
When a cap screw is tightened, it is stretched and the parts that are captured are compressed, resulting in a spring like mechanism. External forces act upon the parts that have been compressed and not upon the cap screw.Fasteners, such as cap screws, nuts and bolts are identified by a number of different attributes including type, material, diameter, length and the number of threads and are available in different drive types or head styles, such as hexagon head, cap head, countersunk head, button head, flange head, pan head and cheese head. Common drive styles are usually Pozidriv, Phillips, and slotted. Socket cap screws have a hexagon socket drive hole and are tightened by a hexagonal wrench, sometimes called an Allen key, or a power tool with a hexagonal bit.
